Originally from Quebec’s Eastern Townships, Laurie Léveillé is a playwright, screenwriter, and translator. She graduated from the Playwriting Program at the National Theatre School of Canada and the Advanced Screenwriting Program at the École Nationale de l’Humour.

Her graduating play, Châteaubriand, was a finalist for the 2023 Gratien-Gélinas Award and won the Audience Choice Award from the Comité de lecture des Écrivain.es associé.es du Théâtre in Paris in 2024. That same year, she also received the committee’s Youth Theatre Award for Magpie ou nos rivières, becoming the first writer to win both awards in the same year. In January 2025, her play Viqueens : saga nordique, a feminist Viking comedy co-written with Laurence Laprise, was presented to sold-out audiences at the Jean-Claude-Germain Theatre of Théâtre d’Aujourd’hui.

In the summer of 2025, two of her plays for children and families toured parks in Laval and Montreal: Nico L’Inoubliable (TACO, Laval) and Dagobert (Théâtre de la Roulotte, Montréal). She also collaborates regularly with the youth theatre company Le Clou, notably through its Scriptarium project.

In September 2024, she published Coup bas, a short novel for young readers and one of the inaugural titles in the Micro collection published by La courte échelle. The book has since received numerous distinctions, including the 2025 Governor General’s Literary Award for Young People’s Literature (Text), the Alvine-Bélisle Award, and a nomination for the 2025 Prix des libraires in the Young Adult Literature category. Laurie is currently adapting Coup bas into a television series.

Since 2023, she has participated in several writing residencies in Quebec and abroad, including at Le Bic, the Maison des Écritures in La Rochelle, the Chartreuse de Villeneuve-lez-Avignon, the Bibliothèque Armand-Gatti, and with the theatre company of Florence Lavaud in France.

Laurie is also developing a distinctive voice as a fiction translator through theatre projects such as Cygnes Noirs (Théâtre à l’Eau Froide) and NuancesTM (Théâtre de la Lune Rouge), literary translations for publishers including La courte échelle and Isatis, and, most recently, the Quebec translation and adaptation of the musical parody Titanique (Juste pour rire), which was widely acclaimed by critics.

Her next book, a graphic novel for young adults, is expected in fall 2027.
