After seven memorable years at MusiquePlus (1998–2004), Rafaël Ouellet joined the Kino movement and made his transition to cinema alongside Denis Côté, working as an editor on Les états nordiques and cinematographer on Nos vies privées. He directed his first feature film, Le cèdre penché (2007), which won the Audience Award at the Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois (RVCQ). He went on to establish a strong presence in Quebec cinema with Camion (2012), awarded at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, and Arsenault & Fils (2022), which earned multiple nominations at the Gala Québec Cinéma.

Active in television since 2013 with Nouvelle adresse, he has directed major series including Fatale station, Ruptures (Seasons 4 & 5), Double Faute (2022), and Aller Simple: Survivre (2023).

In recent years, his focus has been on high-profile television and film projects. He helmed the acclaimed series Veille sur moi (2024), alongside diverse projects across television, stage, and music—including live comedy specials for Louis-José Houde, the stage adaptation La fureur de ce que je pense, and music videos for Salomé Leclerc and Les Cowboys Fringants. His upcoming slate includes directing the television series Angles morts and the feature film Hantée.
