Trained at the Collège Lionel-Groulx as part of the School of professional theatre, Samuël Côté stands out firstly by the obvious quality of his presence, and by the ease with which he is able to navigate between pure comedy, and classic tragedy. His performance of the lead role of Les incroyables aventures de Thierry Ricourt, special Interpol agent, rages as much on stage as on the web, it manifests his gentle neurosis and his strong taste of burlesque. His part in the cycle of Des femmes by Wajdi Mouawad, from Sophocle’s tragedies, won him the Prix de la relève Olivier Reichenbach from TNM. This out of the ordinary experience notably led him on the CNA stage and in Europe, at the 65th Festival d’Avignon.
Lover of creation, he co-founds in 2011 the Théâtre du Grand Cheval, with the actors Debbie Lynch-White and Florence Longpré. The first production that unites them, Chlore, wins immense success at the Théâtre La Licorne, and then at its revival at the Centre du Théâtre d’Aujourd’hui. Samuël had the chance to evolve on the stage of numerous institutions, namely the Théâtre du Rideau Vert (Les Innocentes, m.e.s. by René Richard Cyr), the TNM (Cyrano de Bergerac, m.e.s. by Serge Denoncourt), the Théâtre Prospero (Je crois, m.e.s. by Benoit Rioux) and the Théâtre Denise-Pelletier (L’Avare, m.e.s. by Claude Poissant).
On the road, he tours with the Théâtre Advienne que pourra (D’Artagnan et les trois mousquetaires), as well as the Théâtre Le Clou (Appels entrants illimités) and with the Productions Jean-Bernard Hébert (Notre petite ville;Chat en poche). A short while ago, he developed a very special complicity with the director Angela Konrad, which displays on four productions (Golgotha Picnic; Platonov, amour haine et angles morts (2018 et 2021); Fleuve et Vernon Subutex).
In 2023 at Usine C, he embodies the roles of Lepidus and Menenius, amongst twenty performers, in the ambitious ROME by Brigitte Haentjens, a reconceptualization of five Shakespeare plays from a translation by Jean-Marc Dalpé. He renews his collaboration with Angela Konrad in Tableau final de l'amour, from a text by Larry Tremblay in a staggering duo with Benoit McGinnis, performed at the FTA and Usine C.
On TV, he appears on the credits of many series, among Toute la vérité, Madame Lebrun, Blue Moon, District 31, L’Échappée et Lac Noir. On top of playing the lead role of Rocky, in the two seasons of the youth series Les Sapiens, broadcasted on ICI Radio-Canada Télé and TFO.
Samuël also makes for a formidable acting coach, and regularly lends his voice to many characters in voice overlay.
